![]() I also tried studio drivers, and the engine ini tweaks but these gave very minor improvements at best. Game is still fundamentally a lot of fun though. as it's kind of absurd how badly it plays on my hardware when plenty of more graphically impressive games run far better. It's quite impressive how many little tricks they used on PS4 to make low res low poly stuff look good.Īll in all it's a busted, shit port that for me with mods functions and is enjoyable enough, but honestly needs significant optimization around however the game is handling asset streaming and shader compilation etc. In motion I don't notice it at all and the dark environments + aggressive dof in some cutscenes makes them still look nice. ![]() Sector 7 and 5 mostly alleviated with low textures, Wall Market still has bad performance - if I point the camera in certain directions FPS drops from 90-100 to 40 or so in a couple spots, but it's mostly okay and nothing unplayable by any means.Īs it is I've just been mostly playing with low textures as the high ones aren't thaaaaat much better and the low preset fixes the worst parts of the old ps4 textures anyway. I don't think these are shader compilation issues either since the stutters persist and are very localized to certain environmental transitions). However in any town section if I use the high texture setting I get very large stutters, and my GPU usage repeatedly spikes to 100% before dropping back to like 35% or so (so I'm guessing the game is just fundamentally badly optimized in terms of how it handles VRAM or bandwidth or something, pretty shit ngl especially since the game isn't thaaaaat graphically impressive. With all this, in most of the linear levels I get 90-120 fps at 1080p - 1440p with all other settings maxed out. I found disabling gsync also helped with occasional framepacing issues, but it's small enough an improvement that perhaps the reduced input latency is preferred. What have we received from Square Enix since the launch of this PC port? Nothing. For me I needed async dxvk through dx11. But the studio that worked on the port kept working to make it one of the better ps4 to PC ports out there. Horizon zero dawn was another port with similar problems of it being unplayable and not using the hardware to it's full potential. My PC is pretty high end for it to be experiencing these types of problems. ![]() There are stutters for a couple of seconds whenever I exit the map menu and have those mysterious spectres sequences. Hell I play on 60fps and framerate is inconsistent and resolution scaling is always on(a pain since image quality keeps changing during scenes/fights sometimes). This game has stutters when one tries to run it at 90 or 120fps. Its the people with rigs significantly more powerful than the PS5 being unable to utilize the tech. People with low end graphics cards don't really face the problems. Numerous publishers are making excellent ports every year, and yet Square expects us to believe this is a port worth $70? Although this might not be the worst port ever, it’s easily the worst port in recent memory. It’s a blatant cash grab with next to no effort put into it. The fact that these solutions are so simple and that Square hasn’t implemented these on their own already once again shows how little Square cares about making a quality port.įinally, the fact that this 2 year old game (sure it has DLC but still) is going for $70 and is an Epic Games store exclusive is insane. Alongside this, fixes for these problems have been found by the community already, such as changing to DX11, potentially eliminating stutter, or one of the countless mods that optimizes the way VRAM is utilized, similarly reducing stutter. Digital foundry experiences a lot of these performance issues on a top of the line PC. Secondly although the game is able to reach high framerates at high resolutions, the game has stuttering issues that make the game virtually unplayable in certain sections. Two settings to play with, with two levels each, a maximum framerates of 120, and a dynamic resolution you cannot turn off. Although it’s pretty much a negligible issue it really shows how much Square actually cares about putting love into the port. Tutorials show PS4 button prompts no matter what method of control you’re using, and this holds true for some aspects in gameplay as well. Square didn’t bother changing a lot of aspects to adapt it to pc. Although I love this game, and agree calling it the “worst PC port to ever exist” is probably overkill, and that the game is pretty well optimized (it can run at pretty high framerates at relatively high resolutions without requiring insane specs), this port is still pretty awful.įirstly, it’s incredibly barebones.
